Kit 1 – Annie’s Hook & Needle kit Club

The first kit has arrived and it is Scarves!

There is a lady in our church that is always wearing beautiful scarves; every time I see her I always think how polished she looks. Inspired by how stylish she appears, I am adding more scarves to my wardrobe this fashion season. Now here is my chance to start; having always been a little intimidated by how and when to wear hats and scarves; this will help me take the plunge.

First I would like to say I am really impressed. The first kit came within 10 days of ordering; I was told four to six weeks. Unfortunately; my free gift “The Crocheting and Knit Guide” was not included. I am going to include that fact in my online survey; will let you know later how that was handled.

The kit included a pattern book with four scarves; two crochet and two knitted. I will be doing the crochet ones; never really having an interest in knitting. The skill level for both is “easy”; so this will be a nice diversion from the harder projects in the Crochet Master Book.

The first pattern “Ruffled Scarf” is more to my taste so that will be the first one I attempt. If you are dong this with me, remember to take the time to gauge before you start the first project. In the long run this will save you from being unhappy with your work. Take the time to do it right; it is too much work to take short cuts. I will posting my regular post tomorrow, until then keep those hooks flying.

About crochetwithpassion

I have been certified through the Craft Yarn Council both in teaching and Instructor. I also have been teaching people to crochet for over fifteen years. This is what I will be doing through this blog. In the Crochet Master Class there are 18 projects. Some of the projects will be familiar to me such as Hairpin Lace; Tunisian Crochet; Filet Crochet; Double Ended Crochet; painted Crochet; Aran Crochet and Irish Crochet. However there are several in the book that are new and have peaked my interest and that includes the following: Woven Crochet; Tapestry Crochet; Entrelac Crochet; Fashion Crochet; Tassels; Bullion Stitch; Overlay Crochet; Bead Crochet; Bruges Crochet; Free-form crochet and Wire Crochet. Since Crocheting is a time consuming craft I will only be posting once a week. If you are like me and love to crochet but would really like to challenge yourself to go beyond what you are now doing, come along with me and move to the next level. Although the actual patterns will not be posted (copyright law) I will take you through each project and go through the process of each one. This is not a blog about free crochet patterns or selling crochet tools. What I would like to do is take you with me on the journey through this book as I learn and crochet each of 18 projects. I will attempt to crochet each project in the book, and in the process recording in detail my progress and the problems I encounter along the way and the process I went through to accomplish each project. I am hoping that you will not only learn from my experience but that it will inspire you to push yourself to the next phase in your crocheting skills. Until next time; keep those hooks flying.

Hello there. I want you to know that I think we are kindred spirits. I was searching for a review of Annie’s Hook and Needle club and found your blog. I recently received and completed my first kit, the 2 scarves. How you completed the ruffled one in 5 hours is beyond me! It took me several evenings’ work. Of course, now that I think about it, all together it probably wasn’t much more than 5-6 total hours. Mine turned out really nice. I was excited to see what my next project might be, and I hope it’s the poncho. I will read your review for whichever kit I end up getting before I make it. I’m not a novice crocheter, but I’m not expert either. Also I was wondering if you recommend the Crochet Master book. I’d never heard of it before reading your blog. Thanks!

  2. First, I know that everyone receives the same first kit, but after that everyone receives different kits. I really love my poncho and was really glad when I saw the kit. I have been told we all will receive all the kits eventually.

The Crochet Masters Class is a book, I have really learned a lot by working the book, but it is not a book for a novice. I have included a link from Amazon for the book, it has several reviews and description of the book that might give you enough information to make a decision. I hope you enjoy Annie’s Hook & Needle club as much as I have.

My grandma is looking for the red yarn that came in this kit. Hers didn’t have any labels. Anybody have any information for the yarn used in this project or where to purchase more? Thanks!

  4. When I first joined the club, I really liked this yarn also, when I called the company they said that the yarn came from outside the country and would be almost impossible to buy. I am sorry, but most of the yarn in kits are in unmarked label and hard to re purchase. One of the things about the club I really dislike.
